School Environmental Education Programs
Williamson County Merit Program
All WCS & FSSD schools in Williamson County, TN are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Williamson Recycles/Keep Williamson Beautiful Merit Program. This year-round program offers students environmental education and volunteer opportunities at school. Participating schools earn merit points for recycling rates and volunteer hours, which translate into an annual monetary award!
Our goal is to inspire generations of environmental stewards!
The program focuses on four areas:

Seasonal School Education Programs
Tree Wise - Kindergarten and First Grade Arbor Day Season Program, March
Tree Wise is the annual Arbor Day season education program bringing trees and tree education to kindergarten and 1st grade classes in Williamson County, TN. A Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) arborist and the Williamson County recycling specialist conduct an assembly-style and interactive presentation at your school!

Environmental Reading - Kindergarten Program, April - May
Keep Williamson Beautiful volunteers read environmentally-themed books to promote environmental and litter prevention awareness in kindergarten classes.

Recycled Project Contest
The Recycled Project Contest is a county-wide competition that encourages students to get creative with recycled materials. Students are tasked with creating a recycled project made with materials from school recycling bins, while demonstrating an environmental message. First, second and third place winners earn monetary awards for their respective school recycling programs. The annual Recycled Project Contest includes three divisions: elementary, middle, and high school. WCS and FSSD students are encouraged to participate!
