WILLIAMSON COUNTY VOAD

The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is an association of organizations that mitigate and alleviate the impact of disasters. This association provides a forum promoting cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration, and fosters more effective delivery of services to communities affected by disaster.

The National VOAD coalition includes over 50 of the country's most reputable national organizations (faith-based, community-based and other non-governmental organizations) and 55 State/Territory VOADs, which represent Local/Regional VOADs and hundreds of other member organizations throughout the country.

Williamson County has its own VOAD that brings together nonprofits and corporations to work together in all phases of disaster. The Williamson County VOAD's mission is to foster, through cooperation in mitigation and response, more efficient service to those affected by disasters.

A wide range of services can be provided through a VOAD to affected residents, regardless of federal assistance. Some examples of services that have been provided to the Williamson County community include, but are not limited to:

  • Debris removal from homes or property including in streams and creeks
  • Removal of drywall, flooring and other affected items
  • Mold remediation
  • Downed tree removal

While many disasters often have a need for volunteer labor, the VOAD is not meant for individual volunteers, and It is important not to self-deploy to disaster areas. Residents who want to help in times of crisis can volunteer through a VOAD organization. These organized groups only deploy when an affected community has officially made a request for this type of assistance.

You can read more about the Williamson County VOAD and how your organization can get involved here. The website includes a link to the Williamson VOAD Commitment Letter in which you can view membership levels to decide where your group fits best.

Volunteer Fire Services

Williamson Fire-Rescue is staffed by volunteer professionals. That means that virtually none of our firefighters are paid for their services!  This is an excellent way to give back to your community.

Volunteer applications are accepted all the time and no prior training is required, all training is provided by the county. More information about applying and answers to common questions are available on the Volunteer Firefighter page.
